Look: Tiare Jennings gives Oklahoma softball lead vs. UCLA in WCWS with solo home run

When it comes to the Women's College World Series, runs come at a premium. Which is why players such as Tiare Jennings are similarly valued in the college softball postseason.

Jennings, who entered the 2024 NCAA Softball Tournament already as one of the best power hitters in the history of the sport, proved that yet again in the Sooners' second WCWS game vs. No. 6 national seed UCLA. With one mighty swing off a 62 mph pitch from freshman Kaitlyn Terry, she snuck the ball over the center field wall to give the Sooners a 1-0 lead.

It was not only her seventh run of the postseason, but also her fourth home run of the postseason (but the first since Game 2 against No. 15 Florida State in the Norman Super Regional). Here's a look at the home run, which traveled 243 feet at 72.5 mph:

Said Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso of the go-ahead homer:

"She loves this moment, she loves this platform," Gasso said. "It's where she's best. So I knew it was coming."

Oklahoma was unable to pad its lead, however. Three batters later, with one on base, Kasidi Pickering looked as if she would have an RBI home run in nearly the same place as Jennings. However, center fielder Janelle Meoño (who nearly snagged Jennings' home run), stole one from Pickering that would have given the Sooners a 3-0 lead:

As it stands, the Sooners still hold a 1-0 lead over UCLA heading into the fifth inning. Whether that will be enough to hold off the Bruins remains to be seen.
