LOOK: Dakota Jordan breaks slump for Mississippi State baseball with walk-off vs. St. John's

A month ago, it would have been difficult to fathom intentionally walking David Mershon to pitch to Mississippi State baseball star Dakota Jordan.

But with Jordan 1 for his last 27, that's exactly what St. John's did in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday in the NCAA Tournament's Charlottesville Regional.

Make it 2 for 28.

Jordan fought back from a two-strike count and drilled a three-run home run over the wall in right field, giving the Bulldogs a walk-off, 5-2 win over the third-seeded Red Storm. The victory sends second-seeded Mississippi State to the 1-0 game, where it will play host and top seed Virginia on Saturday (5 p.m., TV TBD).

The long ball was Jordan's 18th on the season. Despite his slump, the outfielder is still hitting .336 on the season. The Bulldogs have played well enough without him firing, winning two games in last week's SEC Tournament despite his struggles.

Will the homer help Jordan bust his slump? If so, look out.
