Look: Caitlin Clark takes cheap shot from Sky's Chennedy Carter in Fever's first home win

Saturday's Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky game had a major talking point heading into it, as it pitted former women's college basketball rivals Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese for the first time in their professional careers.

That storyline and matchup lived up to its expectations and more, though Fever fans might not be happy with the reason why.

As has been an emerging strategy against Clark this season, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft faced considerably physical defense vs. the Sky. One of the most visible moment of this came late in the third quarter of Indiana's 71-70 win over Chicago.

With the Fever leading 53-49 and getting ready to inbound the ball on the baseline, Sky guard Chennedy Carter came in and pushed Clark down to the floor from behind. Carter, in her third WNBA season, was given a common foul after review by the officials. Since it was a foul away from the ball, it resulted in a free throw (which Clark made) and possession for the Fever.

The ESPN broadcast picked up Clark saying "that's not a basketball play" after falling to the ground on the foul.

Another angle of the play showed Reese getting up from the bench and clapping after Carter's foul on Clark:

Clark further expanded on her initial comments that were picked up by ESPN during her postgame news conference Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

"I wasn't expecting that, but it's just, 'Respond, calm down and let your play do the talking.' It is what it is," Clark said.

According to Zion Brown of the Indy Star, Carter did not comment when asked about the situation, saying "next question."

Clark has already spoken on the physical play she has faced early in her WNBA career, saying players are "getting away with things."

"I think everybody is physical with me. They get away with things that probably other people don't get away with and it's tough. But that's just the fact of the matter, this is a very physical game. But yeah, you're going to get pressure, that's just professional basketball. I think it is what it is honestly," Clark said Tuesday following Indiana's game to Los Angeles.

She added Thursday after the Fever's loss to Seattle: "I feel like I'm getting hammered."

Clark finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the Fever's first home win of the season.
