NFL roster cutdown 2024: Dolphins WR Odell Beckham Jr. to miss at least 4 games after being placed on PUP list

The NFL preseason is officially over. Now, all attention turns toward the regular season.

    Jacoby Brissett chosen as Patriots starter over Drake Maye

    Head coach Jerod Mayo has spoken. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, he has chosen veteran QB Jacoby Brissett to be the starter over 2024 third overall pick Drake Maye.

    Brissett brings experience and leadership, and also buys the Patriots time to work out some of the bugs in their offensive line before Maye eventually takes over.

  • "Dicker the Kicker" gets a raise with Chargers

    Los Angeles Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker is getting a new four-year, $22.004 million extension with $12.5 million guaranteed.

    Dicker was 31-for-33 on field goal attempts last season and 35-for-35 on extra points.

  • Ravens TE Mark Andrews returns to practice following car accident

    Andrews was involved in a car accident on Aug. 14 and had missed the last two weeks of training camp.

  • Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown is not expected to play season opener

    Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Hollywood Brown is unlikely to play in Thursday night's season opener for the Chiefs, head coach Andy Reid told reporters Friday. Brown, who signed a one-year deal with Kansas City in March, injured his shoulder during the Chiefs' first preseason game.

  • Eagles lose DB James Bradberry for 6-8 weeks with leg injury

    Bradberry, a 2022 second-team All-Pro, suffered the injury during Wednesday's practice.

    He was thought to be a possible cut candidate this week, but ended up making the Eagles' 53-man roster.

    Eagles GM Howie Roseman said that having a veteran in Bradberry around would be helpful and that the veteran DB has "really good football instincts."

  • A new face in the Vikings' QB room

    Brett Rypien played in two games with the Los Angeles Rams last season. He was 18-for-38 for 172 yards and no touchdowns and one interception.

    Jaren Hall had a solid preseason throwing for 339 yards and four touchdowns and zero interceptions in three games. A possible practice squad add if he doesn't land elsewhere?

  • RB Hassan Haskins reunites with Jim Harbaugh, will join the Chargers

    Running back Hassan Haskins has been claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Chargers, reuniting him with former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. Haskins, who was waived by the Tennessee Titans, played for Harbaugh at Michigan from 2018 to 2021 and was a team captain his senior year.

  • Ja'Marr Chase not practicing today with the Bengals

    Maybe all isn't going to work itself out cleanly with Ja'Marr Chase and the Bengals, who haven't reached an agreement on an extension in the lucrative wide receiver market.

    On Tuesday, head coach Zac Taylor had a rosier outlook. Today was a tad different.

  • RB Dalvin Cook joins Cowboys' practice squad

    The 29-year-old Cook played last season with the Jets and Ravens, rushing for 214 yards in 67 attempts. He is eligible to play in Week 1 should the Cowboys need him. For now, he will remain with the practice squad.

  • Patriots place DT Christian Barnmore on Reserve/Non-Football List as he recovers from blood clots

    The New England Patriots are hoping Christian Barnmore can return at some point this season after placing the DT on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List on Tues

    Just as training camp got under way, the Patriots announced that Barmore, 25, had been diagnosed with blood clots and treated at a local hospital.

    Barnmore is entering his fourth season in New England after being a second-round pick out of Alabama in 2021. In April, he signed a four-year extension worth up to $92 million with $41.8 million guaranteed.

  • Vikings waive 2022 1st-round pick Lewis Cine

    Cine was taken 32nd overall by the Vikings in 2022. He suffered a compound fracture to his lower left leg during Week 4 of the 2022 season while on special teams.

    He played 10 games over two seasons with Minnesota, and was inactive for 10 games .

  • Packers RB AJ Dillon to miss season due to neck injury

    The Packers running back will miss the 2024 season due to a neck injury.

    Dillon, 26, played 15 games last season with Green Bay. He ran for 613 yards and two touchdowns.

    Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein reported this week that Dillon was set to see a decent workload behind No. 1 RB Josh Jacobs.

    While 2022 rushing champion Josh Jacobs is sure to impress, don’t sleep on RB AJ Dillon. His offseason muscle and chisel have turned heads, LaFleur saying Dillon’s in “THE best shape” he’s seen.

  • Dolphins WR Odell Beckham Jr. to begin season on PUP list

    Beckham will miss the Dolphins first four games of the 2024 season. The earliest he is eligible to return is Week 5 when the Dolphins face the Patriots. Beckham will miss games against the Jaguars, Bills, Seahawks, and Titans.

    Beckham played 14 games with the Baltimore Ravens last season. He did not play in 2022 after suffering a torn ACL during Super Bowl LVI when his Los Angeles Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals.

    The 31-year-old wide receiver signed a 1-year, $3 million deal in the offseason with incentives potentially pushing the total value up to a maximum of $8.25 million. The Dolphins were reportedly aware of Beckham's injury when he was signed in May.

  • Chargers release TE Donald Parham Jr.

    Parham was with the Chargers for the last four seasons after going undrafted out of Steton. He is coming off a season where he posted career-highs in receptions (27), targets (41), receiving yards (285), and touchdowns (4).

  • Texans place QB Case Keenum on IR, will miss 2024 season

    The 36-year-old veteran quarterback is dealing with a foot injury and will not play this season. Keenum spent last season with the Texans where he appeared in two games, throwing one touchdown and three interceptions.

  • Bills land Brandon Codrington

    The New York Jets are sending defensive back and returner Brandon Codrinton to the Bills, according to multiple reports. In exchange, the Jets will receive multiple late-round 2026 draft picks.

  • Cowboys trade TE Peyton Hendershot to Chiefs

    The Kansas City Chiefs have scooped up a new tight end. The Chiefs struck a deal with the Dallas Cowboys for Peyton Hendershot, who the Cowboys were planning to waive anyways. In return, Dallas will receive a 2026 conditional seventh round draft pick.

    The former Indiana tight end had four catches for 38 yards last season in Dallas.

  • Bills waive Frank Gore Jr.

    The Buffalo Bills waived Frank Gore Jr. on Tuesday ahead of the deadline. Gore, the son of longtime NFL running back Frank Gore, went undrafted out of Southern Mississippi.

  • Report: Rams trading LB Ernest Jones IV to Titans

    With Tennessee struggling with injuries at linebacker, reinforcements are on the way in the form of Jones, a 2021 third-round pick who started Super Bowl LVI and helped the Rams win in February 2022.

  • Cardinals release QB Desmond Ridder

    Desmond Ridder has apparently lost his backup quarterback competition with Clayton Tune in Phoenix. The Cardinals released Ridder on Tuesday, just months after they traded for him in a deal with the Falcons.

  • Chiefs release Kadarius Toney

    The Kansas City Chiefs released Kadarius Toney on Tuesday. He had just 169 receiving yards and a touchdown last season, his first full one with the Chiefs. We'll see where he lands next.

  • Report: Cowboys cutting DE Carl Lawson days after signing him

    Brief stay in Dallas for Lawson, though he may still end up on the practice squad.

  • Lions reportedly making Hendon Hooker the No. 2 QB

    The 2023 third-round pick out of Tennessee appears to have won the backup job to Jared Goff, as the Lions are reportedly releasing QB Nate Sudfeld.

  • Browns RB Nick Chubb, Rams TE Tyler Higbee on PUP list

    Two notable names, especially for fantasy purposes, will stay on the PUP list and miss the first four games of the season.

    Browns running back Nick Chubb is still recovering from a knee injury suffered in Week 2 against the Steelers last season, while Rams tight end Tyler Higbee is still recovering from a knee injury as well.

  • Vikings TE T.J. Hockenson to remain on PUP list

    T.J. Hockenson will begin the 2024 NFL season on the PUP list, ruling him out for the Vikings' first four games against the Giants, 49ers, Texans, and Packers.

    Hockenson suffered a torn ACL and MCL during Week 16 last season. He finished the season with 95 receptions for 960 yards and five touchdowns.

  • Dalvin Cook to the Cowboys?

    The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly set to meet with running back Dalvin Cook on Monday night. Cook spent most of lsat season with the Jets, and then joined the Baltimore Ravens for their playoff run.

    While he had four straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Cook had just 214 rushing yards and didn't score a touchdown with the Jets in 2023.

    Cook would join Ezekiel Elliott in Dallas, who signed a one-year, $2 million deal to return to the Cowboys this past offseason.

    One day before NFL teams are required to cut their rosters down to 53, Green Bay has reportedly acquired backup QB Malik Willis from the Titans. Where does Willis slot into the Packers' depth chart with Sean Clifford acting as QB2 throughout preseason? It's hard to say.

  • Seahawks edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu to miss time with knee injury

    Seattle's top pass rusher went down during Saturday's preseason game against the Browns. With a reported sprained MCL and a recovery time of 2-6 weeks, he's expected to miss the first portion of the season.

  • More on CeeDee Lamb's new deal

    Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein reports that Lamb is getting $100 million guaranteed. Meanwhile, the Cowboys still have two star players who are seeking new contracts: QB Dak Prescott and edge rusher Micah Parsons.

  • Cowboys reach reported 4-year, $136 million deal with WR CeeDee Lamb

    After the star receiver has held out of the entirety of training camp, he lands a massive deal that makes him the 2nd-highest paid receiver in the NFL, behind only Justin Jefferson.

  • JuJu Smith-Schuster returning to Chiefs

    Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is expected to return to the Kansas City Chiefs, reports NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

    Smith-Schuster played the 2022-23 season with Kansas City, appearing in 16 games (starting 14) and catching 78 passes for 933 yards with three touchdowns. In the postseason, he added 10 catches for 89 yards as the Chiefs went on to win Super Bowl LVII.

    After signing a three-year, $25.5 million deal with the New England Patriots in free agency, Smith-Schuster played in 11 games (staring seven). He compiled 29 receptions for 260 yards and a touchdown, hardly the production expected with that contract. The Patriots released him in early August.

  • Browns' Nick Chubb expected to begin season on PUP list: Report

    Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is expected to begin the 2024 NFL season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. As a result, he will not be active for the Browns' first four games of the season.

    Chubb is recovering from a significant knee injury suffered in Week 2 last season. He hasn't practiced through offseason OTAs and minicamps, nor training camp. The hope is that Chubb will be able to do so after missing four games.

    Meanwhile, Jerome Ford and D'Onta Foreman will carry the workload at running back for Cleveland.

  • Lions announce that DL DJ Reader has passed his physical

    Detroit Lions defensive lineman DJ Reader has passed his physical and is off the PUP list, the team announced Sunday. Reader suffered a torn quadricep tendon in Week 15 last season, while playing with the Cincinnati Bengals. He signed with the Lions in March.

  • Rams give LB Ernest Jones IV permission to seek trade: Report

    After negotiations on a contract extension have stalled, the Los Angeles Rams are allowing linebacker Ernest Jones IV and his agents to seek a trade. He's in the final year of his rookie contract. Jones later said on social media he never asked for a trade.

    Losing Jones would cost the Rams their play-caller on defense. He made 145 tackles last season with 14 tackles for loss and six quarterback hits. In three years with Los Angeles, Jones has averaged 107 tackles per season. He was the Rams' 2021 third-round pick out of South Carolina.

  • Jaguars release wide receiver Denzel Mims

    The Jacksonville Jaguars have released wide receiver Denzel Mims, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Mims, who is 26 and entering his fifth season in the league, signed with the Jaguars in June after a year on the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad.

  • Dolphins release Mike White

    The Miami Dolphins are releasing Mike White, per multiple reports. The 29-year-old quarterback joined the Dolphins in 2023 on a two-year contract; Skylar Thompson will now be Tua Tagovailoa's backup without White.

  • Preseason Blitz: Bryce Young looks good, Steelers QB battle looks settled

    It was another busy day of NFL preseason action as teams wrap up their exhibition slate leading into the regular season. The day started with Panthers QB Bryce Young making his 2024 preseason debut, and he looked very sharp in leading the team to a touchdown on his lone drive of the day. Coming off an ugly rookie season, Young enters Year 2 with some positive momentum.

    Meanwhile, the Steelers appear to have made their decision on the starting QB after the team pulled Russell Wilson following a a very brief (and strong) showing in Saturday's preseason game. All indications point to Wilson starting Week 1 for the Steelers with Justin Fields as his backup.

    And hey, remember Cam Akers? He was once a rising star for the Rams before his career went downhill. Based on his performance for the Texas Saturday, he looks like he's still got some gas in the tank.

  • Cowboys All-Pro CB DaRon Bland will miss start of season

    Tough news for the Cowboys, who will be without star cornerback DaRon Bland for the first few weeks of the regular season with a foot injury, per reports. He's coming off a career year in 2023 with nine INTs, five of which he returned for TDs.

  • Browns holding Deshaun Watson out of preseason finale

    It's confirmed the Cleveland QB won't play tonight vs. the Seahawks as he continues to work back from offseason shoulder surgery.

  • Bears acquire DT Chris Williams from Browns in trade

    The Chicago Bears shore up their defense through a trade with the Cleveland Browns, sending a 2025 6th-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for DT Chris Williams and a 2025 7th-round pick.

  • Rams OL Alaric Jackson suspended 2 games

    Rams OL Alaric Jackson has been suspended without pay for the first 2 games of the season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

    The 26-year-old Jackson is entering his fourth NFL season after going undrafted in 2021. After playing 12 total games over his first two seasons he appeared in 15 for the Rams in 2023.

    Jackson will miss the Rams' games against the Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals. He's eligible to return for their Week 3 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

  • Bengals cut OT Jackson Carman, their 2021 second-round draft pick

    OT Jackson Carman was one of 11 players cut by the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday.

    Carman was selected 46th overall in 2021 out of Clemson and played 17 games his rookie year, but only five over the past two seasons.

  • Seahawks send LB Darrell Taylor to Chicago Bears

    The Chicago Bears have gained another pass rusher, receiving linebacker Darrell Taylor in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. In return, the Seahawks receive a 2025 sixth-round pick.

  • Jacoby Brissett to start for Patriots Saturday vs. Commanders

    Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Brissett will be QB1 in their preseason finale. Drake Maye will see the field at some point during the game.

    Mayo said earlier this week that the Patriots' QB battle will be decided by Monday night.

  • Browns add kicker Lucas Havrisik

    The 24-year-old Havrisik spent last season with the Los Angeles Rams. He went 15-for-20 on field goal attempts and was 19-for-22 on extra points.

  • Bears DB Douglas Coleman III still being evaluated after leaving game on stretcher

    Bears DB Douglas Coleman III left Thursday's game in Kansas City on a stretcher after suffering an injury on the first play of the second half. Head coach Matt Eberflus said Coleman had movement in his extremities and he did give the team a thumbs up.

  • Justin Fields and his pitch to be QB1 for the Steelers: "I think I've shown what I can do."

  • Bengals DE Miles Murphy expected to miss 4-6 weeks with knee sprain

    Cincinnati Bengals defensive end and 2023 first-round pick Myles Murphy is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks with a knee sprain, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

    Murphy, 22, suffered the injury on a non-contact play on Tuesday, according to reports, and needed to be helped off the field. The Bengals have already lost Cam Semple for the season with a torn Achilles and just got Sam Hubbard back to practice.

    Last season, Murphy compiled three sacks and 20 tackles, with three QB hits and three tackles for loss. He was Cincinnati's first-round pick (No. 28 overall) out of Clemson.
