Indiana basketball and Northwestern are seeking bounce-back victories in Big Ten action.

The Hoosiers (14-10, 6-7) failed to challenge Purdue last weekend and, without a late-season surge, IU won't make the NCAA tournament. Northwestern (17-8, 8-6) is trying to hold a top-four position but is coming off a loss to streaking Rutgers.

Northwestern has won three straight in the series, including two meetings last season.

Kel'el Ware has 22 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocked shots for IU, and Mackenzie Mgbako has 20 points. The Hoosiers have familiar issues with 3-pointers (6-of-18) and free throws (12-of-21). IU forces just 3 NU turnovers.

Northwestern's leading scorers – Boo Buie and Brooks Barnhizer – don't contribute much in the opening 30 minutes. However, the Wildcats get career games from Ryan Langborg (26) points, Nick Martinell (13 points, 13 rebounds) and Matt Nicholson (14 points, 16 rebounds). Buie finishes with 14 points.

The only Big Ten team IU coach Mike Woodson has not defeated is NU.

Indiana hosts Nebraska on Wednesday.

IU cuts its deficit to 63-58 as Mackenzie Mgbako hits 1-of-2 free throws. The Hoosiers score 11 in a row.

Trey Galloway makes 1-of-2 free throws after a flagrant foul by NU's Nick Martinelli, then hits a floater on the ensuing possession.

IU scores 7 straight.

5:27 left 2H: Northwestern 63, Indiana 49

Malik Reneau fouls out with 6:23 to go. That's the 4th time in 6 games. He scores 9.

Boo Buie's first field goal is a 3 with 8:35 to go. He adds another a couple of minutes later and has 10 points.

9:47 left 2H: Northwestern 55, Indiana 45

NU comes out of the timeout and boosts its lead to 10 with a 7-point run. Matthew Nicholson has 12 points and 10 rebounds. Nick Martinelli has 13 and 10. That's the first career double-double for both.

11:52 left 2H: Northwestern 48, Indiana 43

Malik Reneau's putback brings IU within 43-42, but Nick Martinelli hits a right wing 3 on the following possession.

Ryan Langborg hits a 3 to reach 17 points, and NU keeps the ball on a Gabe Cupps foul. Boo Buie misses a 3 on the extra possession.

Mackenzie Mgbako hits a left corner 3 out of the media timeout. He has 7 of his 8 points in the second half.

IU scores the first 7 points of the half and has a shot at the lead, but Malik Reneau's hook falls short.
