You have to listen to Jason Benetti's call on final out of Tigers comeback over Rays

Jason Benetti is having the time of his life in his first season as Detroit Tigers play-by-play television broadcaster on Bally Sports Detroit.

Benetti jumped ship from the historically bad Chicago White Sox in the nick of time, and has been on the call as the Tigers have gone 29-11 since Aug. 10 to turn an 11-game playoff deficit into a 2½-game lead over the Minnesota Twins in the American League wild-card race entering the regular season's final series at Comerica Park.

Thursday's call summed up the feeling of Tigers fans everywhere, as they rallied for another epic 4-3 win to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays.

"Tigers win again!" Benetti yelled as Jason Foley struck out Jose Siri with a 98 mph sinker to end the game.

"A city that doesn't care about the odds has a baseball team to match," Benetti said, in part perhaps a nod to the Tigers having less than a 1% chance to make the playoffs in August according to predictive models, and a single-digit chance less than two weeks ago.

The Tigers are now 96.6% to make the playoffs, according to Fangraphs. The Tigers' magic number is 2 with the Twins, and they can clinch a playoff berth Friday against the Chicago White Sox (find tickets here).
