We're now heading into Week 2 of the New Orleans Saints preseason where they'll be facing the San Francisco 49ers in the Bay Area. Before Sunday night's game, we are going to revisit the six position battles that we highlighted at the start of training camp.

Here is where each competition stands at this very moment, coming in at all three phases for the team: offense, defense, and special teams.

LB: Pete Werner vs. Willie Gay Jr.

The competition at this spot has dwindled down a little bit as Pete Werner has separated himself from Gay this training camp. This was evident a few weeks back when the team extended Werner, keeping him in New Orleans for the next three seasons. With that being said, Werner is currently being held out with an injury which will allow Gay to get a ton of snaps in this next preseason game.

CB: Alontae Taylor vs. Kool-Aid McKinstry

The competition at the nickel corner spot, hasn't been exactly what we expected it to be but this comes in a good way. Alontae Taylor has really impressed thus far in camp and is looking like he's possibly turning the corner in his 3rd season. McKinstry has done some good things during camp after coming back from injury but still has a ways to go on the inside. This was evident against Arizona.

WR: Cedrick Wilson vs. A.T. Perry

Perry has started to make his presence known after turning it up a notch late in camp and really putting on a show in last week's preseason game. The second-year receiver caught 4 passes for 85 yards including a 58-yard deep ball from Jake Haener. A jump from Perry is exactly what the team has been looking for, hopefully he can keep climbing despite dealing with an ankle injury. As for Wilson who led the team in receiver snaps in game one, will have to show that he is not only a reliable option but a consistent one if he wants the No. 3 receiver job. He caught only one pass for one yard in last week's game.

K: Charlie Smyth vs. Blake Grupe

It's starting to seem like the kicker competition is a little more serious than previously anticipated. Charlie Smyth is starting to find his groove a little bit while Blake Grupe is struggling to find consistency. Smyth hit his first ever kick from 37 yards out to win last week's game. Grupe also hit two chip shots in game one but has missed a couple of crucial kicks in the latter parts of camp.

RB: Kendre Miller vs. Jordan Mims

Unfortunately, there isn't much to report here as Kendre Miller is still out with injury and the uncertainty continues to linger. With this though, Mims has done everything to take advantage of his opportunities with some nice runs in game one. Mims should be able to build off his performance this Sunday.

QB: Spencer vs. Jake Haener

The most exciting battle of camp continues. Both Haener and Rattler experienced equally impressive days in game one which is a great sign for the team. Between Haener's 58-yard bomb to A.T. Perry and Rattler's game-winning drive, it's hard to keep the excitement to a minimum. This week should be a fun one.
