Lane Kiffin declines invite to wear Tennessee Peyton Manning jersey at Morgan Wallen concert

OXFORD — The Ole Miss athletic department is seeking out new and different revenue opportunities, Athletic Director Keith Carter told the Clarion Ledger in January.

The use of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium as a concert venue for country music artist Morgan Wallen last spring was one of those opportunities that Ole Miss deemed successful, despite the last-minute cancellation of one of his events.

Wallen's "One Night At A Time" tour brought him back to Oxford on Saturday, and Rebels football coach Lane Kiffin was in attendance.

At one point during the event, Wallen, a Tennessee fan, described a unique request he'd extended to Kiffin. Wallen had tried to get Kiffin to wear a Peyton Manning Volunteers jersey to the concert. Kiffin spent the 2009 season coaching the Vols before leaving for USC.

"I tried to get Lane Kiffin to wear a Peyton Manning jersey, and he said no," Wallen told the crowd. "So I think y'all oughta keep him around for a while."

Kiffin has faced Tennessee once since his tenure at Ole Miss began in 2020, beating the Vols in Knoxville in 2021, 31-26.

"Sorry, couldn't do it," Kiffin wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, while tagging Wallen. His post also included an orange heart emoji next to Manning's No. 16.
