McCord had a stellar start in Syracuse's 38-22 win over Ohio, completing 27 of 39 passes for 354 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed five times for minus-1 yards.
His passing yards, pass completions, pass attempts and passing touchdowns were each career highs.
In Ohio State's 52-6 win over Akron, Howard completed 17 of 28 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 18 yards on four carries, with a long run of 19 yards.
