Two-time coach of the year

Vaughn has won coach of the year honors in the Big Ten the last two seasons, first in 2022 for leading the Teripans to their first conference title and his second in 2023 after leading them to the league tournament title. He holds a 183-117 record with an 84-54 record in conference play. Maryland has been to three straight NCAA Tournament regionals.

Youngest Power 5 coach

Vaughn's Maryland bio calls him "the youngest head coach in all of 'Power Five' baseball."

Vaughn is 35 years old and has been a head coach for six seasons. He spent two seasons at Kansas State, his alma mater, as a volunteer assistant before going to Maryland in 2013.

Offensive power follows

The Terps set program records this season in runs (578), hits (684), walks (385) and RBIs (552). Nationally, Maryland was top 10 in runs, doubles, hits, home runs, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Luke Shiger led the nation in runs in 2023 under Vaughn.

His offensive philosophy is called "The Pack," where each hitter in the lineup has a role. The philosophy is situated on three pillars: Approach, toughness and intensity.

Short-lived pro career

Vaugh's pro career never went higher than Low-A minor league ball. He was a part of the Chicago White Sox organization after being drafted in the 30th round. He played two games at that level, recording two hits and six RBIs. In 46 games in Rookie ball, he had 34 hits and 12 RBIs with four home runs.

Humble beginnings

Vaughn is from Humble, Texas, which is just north of Houston. Vaughn is married to his wife Kayleigh and they have two sons.
