ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit tests positive for COVID-19, will work College GameDay and Sugar Bowl from home
Kirk Herbstreit will not be on site for College GameDay or the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Friday, but he will be working.
The ESPN personality revealed Tuesday that he tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. He says he is feeling good, but will be working from home for ESPN’s broadcast on New Year’s Day.

It already stood to be an unusual bowl season for Herbstreit. For the first time in years, he is not calling the Rose Bowl, which was relocated to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, due to California’s COVID-19 restrictions.
Instead of No. 1 seed Alabama against No. 4 Notre Dame, Herbstreit will be calling a Sugar Bowl between No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Ohio State.
This is the second time Herbstreit has had to work from home due to COVID-19, having come into close contact with an infected person in Week 4. Herbstreit also drew criticism earlier month for baselessly speculating Michigan would use COVID-19 protocols to avoid playing Ohio State, for which he later apologized.
Herbstreit joins a collection of ESPN personalities to test positive for COVID-19 that includes Scott Van Pelt, Matthew Berry, Doris Burke, Todd McShay and Dan Dakich and also fellow college football analyst Greg McElroy.
The former Alabama QB also announced Tuesday night that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and wouldn’t be a part of ESPN’s playoff coverage. McElroy was set to call the Cotton Bowl on Wednesday for TV and then the Rose Bowl for radio on Friday.
