Key NFL offseason dates Panthers fans should know in 2024

Now that the new power structure of the Carolina Panthers is set, it’s time to get to work.

Let’s look at all of the important dates for the 2024 offseason.

Feb. 3: Senior Bowl

Some of the NFL draft’s top prospects get together down in Mobile, Ala.—where Morgan and Canales have already showed face. The game is set to kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Feb. 4: Pro Bowl Games

The Panthers will be represented by defensive tackle Derrick Brown, who is making his first appearance at the all-star festivities.

Feb. 8: NFL Honors

The yearly award show will feature the reveal of the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Franchise great Julius Peppers has been named a finalist in his first year of eligibility.

Feb. 11: Super Bowl LVIII

Team scouts will be on hand here in New Orleans, La.

Feb. 27-March 4: NFL scouting combine

The braintrust will head over to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. to evaluate draft prospects in the Underwear Olympics.

March 5: Deadline to use franchise tag

If the Panthers still don’t reach a contract extension with two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Brian Burns, they can keep him around by slapping on the franchise tag.

March 7: College pro days begin

This year’s tour probably won’t be as fun as the last, but the Panthers will travel around the country to get close-ups on draft prospects in their own stomping grounds.

March 11-13: Free agency negotiating window opens

Hooray for legal tampering! Teams can begin working on new deals with all free agents.

March 13: NFL free agency and trading period begins

This is when those new deals can become official. Teams can also pull the trigger on trades.

April 1: Offseason workouts begin

With a new head coach in tow, the Panthers can start their offseason workout program at the beginning of April.

April 25-27: 2024 NFL draft

The Panthers probably won’t be on the board come April 25—because, ya know, they kinda don’t have their first-round pick. They are, however, slated to kick off the second round the night next.

May 2: Deadline for 5th-year option

Carolina can either exercise or decline the fifth-year option on 2021 eighth overall pick Jaycee Horn. If they opt in on the talented, but oft-injured cornerback—he’ll be owed approximately $11.2 million in 2025.

May 3-6 or 10-13: Rookie minicamp

Panthers rookies get their first taste of NFL (practice) action.

May: 2024 NFL schedule announced

We know the opponents, but we’ll learn the dates for Carolina’s 2024 slate (which will include a trip to Germany) some time in May.

July 15: Extension deadline for franchise-tagged players

If the Panthers end up tagging Burns, they’ll have until the middle of July to agree to an extension.

July: Training camp expected to begin

For the first time in franchise history (excluding the COVID-shortened 2020 offseason), training camp will not be held at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. They’ll, instead, stick around at their practice facility in Charlotte.

August: Preseason begins

The dress rehearsals start in August, with roster cuts to the initial 53-man roster closing out the month.

September: Regular season begins
