Karim Benzema scores by blocking keeper's throw in Champions League final (Video)
Karim Benzema put Real Madrid ahead of Liverpool in Saturday’s Champions League final with one of the most bizarre goals you’ll ever see.
Benzema blocked Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius’ throw with an outstretched leg. The ball trickled straight into the Liverpool net to put Real Madrid up 1-0.

Had Benzema blocked a punt, or had he actually impeded Karius’ ability to throw the ball, the referee might have ruled out the goal and given Benzema a yellow card. But he did not encroach on Karius’ space, and was well within his right to try to block the throw. As bizarre as it was, it was also genius.
Liverpool, however, equalized a few minutes later through Sadio Mane. And given the nature of Madrid’s opener, it sure seemed like justice was served.

The two European giants are tied 1-1 with 30 minutes remaining – and with Mohamed Salah out of the game, having injured his shoulder. If the score holds, the game would go to extra time, and then, after 30 more minutes, penalties.
