Who will Kansas women’s basketball play in Big 12 Conference tournament? Seed, time, TV
LAWRENCE — Kansas women’s basketball learned the path it would have to take to win a Big 12 Conference tournament in recent days after the Jayhawks wrapped up their regular season.
Coach Brandon Schneider’s squad will enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed with an 18-11 record overall and an 11-7 mark against the Big 12 Conference. Kansas will play No. 10-seed BYU (16-15, 6-12 in Big 12) at 5:30 p.m. on Big 12 NOW on ESPN+ in the second round Friday in Kansas City, where the tournament is being played at the T-Mobile Center. Although the Jayhawks have all but assured themselves a spot in the NCAA tournament, they can continue to bolster their resume with a strong showing in the days ahead.

“Well, I don’t think we were fighting for a tournament spot today,” Schneider said this past Saturday after a win against Oklahoma. “I think we clinched the tournament spot when we won at Central Florida. I think today was more about the potential of improving a seed, not only in the NCAA tournament but I haven’t seen what else has happened in the league. But maybe even a seed in the conference tournament.”
Kansas will enter the Big 12 tournament as a winner in nine of the past 11 games it has played. That includes a pair of victories against the very same BYU team the Jayhawks will play first in the conference tournament. Recent seasons haven’t treated Kansas well in the Big 12 tournament, but there’s a level of momentum the Jayhawks have that should make them a formidable opponent for anyone they face.
If Kansas beats BYU, Schneider and company will face No. 2-seed Texas (27-4, 14-4 in Big 12) in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. on Big 12 NOW on ESPN+. Should the Jayhawks reach that point, a semifinal game Monday is on the line. After that, of course, is the Big 12 tournament championship game on Tuesday.
