Kansas volleyball’s Reagan Cooper selected in 2nd round of Pro Volleyball Federation draft

LAWRENCE — Kansas volleyball saw one of its own, Reagan Cooper, selected this week in the Pro Volleyball Federation’s inaugural player draft.

Cooper was picked in the second round, 14th overall, by the Columbus Fury. She was one of 35 collegiate athletes, and seven from the Big 12 Conference, to be drafted across five rounds. And she now has a route to compete professionally in North America in the women’s volleyball league.

“Our girl has been DRAFTED,” the Kansas volleyball program posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “In the second round of the inaugural (Pro Volleyball Federation) draft, (Cooper) was selected to the (Columbus Fury).”

Cooper was a graduate outside/opposite for Kansas this past season, after previous stops in her career at Texas Tech and Washington State. She was one of the most prolific attackers among the Jayhawks in 2023, finishing second in kills. In her lone season at KU, she certainly left her mark on the program.

Kansas went 24-6 overall and 14-4 against the Big 12 in 2023. That was good enough for second in the Big 12 and the opportunity to host the initial couple rounds the Jayhawks competed in during this year’s NCAA tournament, where they lost in a five-set thriller in the second round against Penn State. So, Cooper’s career certainly doesn’t lack momentum ahead of this professional opportunity.

“The league currently consists of seven teams: Atlanta Vibe, Columbus Fury, Grand Rapids Rise, Omaha Supernova, Orlando Valkyries, San Diego Mojo and an unnamed team in Las Vegas,” a Big 12 release stated. “The league will also add teams in Dallas, Kansas City and Indianapolis in 2025. The teams will play a 24-match schedule culminating in a four-team championship weekend in mid-May with two semifinal matches before the title contest.”
