Jrue Holiday lauds Derrick White’s contributions to the Boston Celtics

If you ask veteran Boston Celtics floor general Jrue Holiday whether he thinks Derrick White ought to get a nod for the NBA’s 2024 All-Star Game, the answer in unambiguous. In conversation with NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin, Holiday was asked about White’s role in helping to get the win vs. the Toronto Raptors in a recent contest. “He’s an All-Star,” said the Celtics guard via MassLive’s Souichi Terada.

“I think the things that he does, lots of times goes unnoticed,” added the UCLA alum. “The way that he plays, the way that he carries this team — especially with (star Celtics forward Jaylen Brown) out tonight.”

“He hit a big shot there in the corner,” said Holiday of a late White trey that likely sealed the win for Boston. “That’s what D-White does.”

And while he has had some recent struggles in terms of efficiency from the field, all of the other things that White has been doing to get the victory for the Celtics has increasingly come into the foreground.

As his teammates and the media magnify his non-counting stat contributions, there is a chance that the coaches voting for reserves will account for White’s quiet imprint on the Celtics success.

Because, as far as Holiday (and many fans) are concerned, the man IS an All-Star.
