Jonathan Powell, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Centerville High School near Dayton, announced Wednesday that he's committed to the Xavier Musketeers.

Powell is the first Class of 2024 commitment for Sean Miller and the Muskies.

Earlier this month, Powell narrowed his list of finalists, per on3sports.com's Joe Tipton, to XU, Clemson, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State and Virginia Tech.

"My decision to choose Xavier over any school came down to who me and my family feels can develop me into being a next-level talent," Powell said, per Tipton. "I also like the program and coaching staff a lot and I feel at home, especially with the relationship my uncle had with Coach Miller. I feel coach Miller has my best interest in me as a student-athlete."

In March, Powell helped Centerville to a Div. I regional final win against Fairfield High School. The Elks lost to Pickerington Central in the state semifinals.

247sports.com ranks Powell No. 93 in the Class of 2024. Rivals.com ranks Powell 114th in the class.

Powell's commitment comes one day after Glenelg Country School Drew McKenna committed to Georgetown over XU and Butler.

Four Class of 2023 players - point guard Trey Green, forwards Dailyn Swain and Reid Ducharme and center Kachi Nzeh - have signed letters of intent to play for XU.

Since the end of last season, the Muskies have added four players via the transfer portal: North Texas' Abou Ousmane, Rice's Quincy Olivari, Western Kentucky's Dayvion McKnight and Indiana's Logan Duncomb, a former Moeller High School standout.
