Johnson forward Sam McKinney voted Austin-area Boys Athlete of the Week

Johnson basketball player Sam McKinney, whose buzzer-beater gave the Jaguars a 54-52 win over Westlake, was voted the Covert Chevrolet Bastrop Austin-area Boys Athlete of the Week for Jan. 1-6.

McKinney, who finished the game with 18 points, received nearly 54% of the vote. Bowie basketball player Bennett Seiler won the previous week's poll.

St. Michael's basketball player Aiden Disu, Lake Travis' Hudson Greer, Vandegrift's Mark Fletcher and Round Rock's Jason Ward were the other candidates.

The American-Statesman will have a weekly vote for Boys Athlete of the Week and Girls Athlete of the Week throughout the academic year.
