Texas Tech football coach Joey McGuire on Wednesday announced five team captains for 2024.

The five are running back Tahj Brooks, offensive lineman Caleb Rogers, quarterback Behren Morton and linebackers Bryce Ramirez and Jacob Rodriguez. This is the first time McGuire has named permanent captains. Previously, he designated a leadership committee of upperclassmen from each position group.

"These five individuals have earned their place as a captain within this program," McGuire said in the announcement. "As we enter the offseason, I believe it is vital that we continue to develop future leaders in our program. While these five will be our set captains for this upcoming season, my challenge to them has been to help us identify the individuals who will eventually make up a separate leadership committee that will help us continue to take this program to new heights."

Brooks was the fourth-leading rusher in the FBS this past season with 1,538 yards, and his 290 carries were second most at any level of college football. Morton threw for 1,757 yards and 15 touchdowns, the last three in the Red Raiders' Independence Bowl victory over California. In that game, Rogers made his 42nd career start.

Ramirez returned from multiple tibia and fibula fractures in September 2022 to play in 11 games in 2023. Rodriguez, a first-team linebacker at the beginning of the 2023 campaign, had his season interrupted by a foot injury and returned in the second half of the season to play in five games.

The Red Raiders started off-season winter conditioning last week. Spring practice begins March 19, and the spring game is scheduled for April 20 at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland.
