Joc Pederson's latest blast pushes Dodgers to NL single-season home run record
Joc Pederson has been on some kind of tear lately.
With his latest home run, he pushed the Los Angeles Dodgers to the National League record.
His second home run during Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies was the 250th home run of the season for the Dodgers, setting the record for home runs in a season by an NL team.
Dodgers set record with 20 games remaining
The Dodgers passed the 2000 Houston Astros, who previously held the record with 249 home runs. They still have 20 games remaining.
Pederson secured the feat with a two-run, fourth-inning blast off of Rockies reliever Wes Parsons that gave L.A. a 7-2 lead. It was Pederson’s second home run of the night following a leadoff shot in the first inning off Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela.
Red-hot Joc
It continues a torrid stretch for Pederson, who now has five home runs in his last three games. In fact, he second home run concluded a 6-for-6 stretch that included those five home runs.
Rockies reliever DJ Johnson was finally able to cool Pederson off with a strikeout in the sixth inning.
Pederson’s record-securing home run was his 32nd of the season.
Yet another HR record
The Dodgers’ NL home run record arrives four days after the Minnesota Twins set the American League and MLB record for home runs in a season when catcher Mitch Garver hit the team’s 268th home run in a game against the Detroit Tigers.
National League teams, of course, don’t have the regular use of designated hitters, leading to a slower home run pace.
Pederson is the third-leading home run hitter for the Dodgers. Cody Bellinger has 44 and Max Muncy has 33.
