Jets reportedly hoping to hire Panthers WR coach Shawn Jefferson
Another all-star from the Carolina Panthers’ 2023 coaching staff may be soaring out of town.
According to CBS Sports senior NFL insider Josina Anderson, the New York Jets are close to hiring Panthers wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson. Anderson notes that “things are heating up” between Jefferson and the Jets, who have been interested in the 54-year-old for quite some time.
The Panthers hired Jefferson last February. He brought 30 years of NFL experience with him to Carolina, with 17 of those coming as a coach.
Jefferson, a former wideout, began his career on the sidelines as an offensive assistant for the Detroit Lions in 2006. From there, he advanced to the role of assistant wide receivers coach in 2007, then to wide receivers coach from 2008 to 2012.
He went on to serve in the same position for the Tennessee Titans (2013 to 2015), the Miami Dolphins (2016 to 2018), the Jets (2019 to 2020) and the Arizona Cardinals (2021 to 2022). Jefferson was also an associate head coach in New York and Arizona.
