Jeremy Maclin signs with Ravens, adding much-needed target for Joe Flacco
From the moment Jeremy Maclin was surprisingly cut by the Kansas City Chiefs, it seemed like the Baltimore Ravens would be the natural landing spot.
Maclin couldn’t pass up a good opportunity. On Monday he and the Ravens agreed to a two-year deal. The agreement was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Maclin dealt with a lot of injuries last season and was a Chiefs salary cap casualty, but he still becomes the Ravens’ best all-around receiver the moment he steps on their practice field. Baltimore had Mike Wallace, a good deep threat, Breshad Perriman, a disappointing 2015 first-round pick, and not much else. The loss of tight end Dennis Pitta to another severe hip injury didn’t help either.

Getting Maclin is a big boost to Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, who is coming off a mediocre season. It wasn’t looking good for a rebound after the Ravens did little to replace retired Steve Smith and Kamar Aiken, who left as a free agent, but Maclin helps. Maclin had just 536 yards last season as he battled injuries, but he was over 1,000 yards in each of the previous two seasons and is just 29 years old. He can bounce back.
Maclin also was considering the Buffalo Bills, who also need receiver help, and ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported his second choice was the Philadelphia Eagles. Perhaps Buffalo or Philadelphia will turn to Eric Decker, who the New York Jets will reportedly trade or cut soon (Schefter reported the Ravens remain interested in adding Decker too). Maclin was the more desirable of the two, and it seemed inevitable he would land with the receiver-needy Ravens.
