Jazz select Cody Williams with 10th pick in NBA Draft

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (ABC4 Sports) – The Utah Jazz drafted one of the most athletic player in the NBA Draft, selecting Colorado swingman Cody Williams with the 10th overall pick.

In his only season at Colorado, Williams averaged 11.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward made 55.2 percent of his shots from the field, and 41.5 percent from three-point land.

Jazz have many options on NBA draft night

“I just wanted to land somewhere that would develop me and make me the best basketball player I could be,” Williams said. “I’m happy that I landed with Utah. So I’m definitely excited. I just felt relieved when I got my or my name called.”

Williams has a lot of upside, but the 19-year-old may not be able to crack the Jazz rotation right away. He is familiar with Utah, having played against the Utes twice last season for the Buffaloes. He loves being a part of a young developing team.

“I think I fit in with just my versatility,:” Williams said. “I think when you come in such a young age, being able play more positions and guard multiple positions I feel like that really allows you to fit in with the dynamic of the team just because you can do so much. They’re a young team, and I feel like I can fit in with that.”

Williams is the younger brother of Oklahoma City Thunder star Jalen Williams, who was taken with the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. If Cody can develop into the player Jalen was, the Jazz got a steal.

“He really made a name for himself,” Cody said. “Being himself not only includes just a personality, but also his work ethic and how hard he worked to get to where he is, and what he’s going to continue to go to.”

And there will definitely be some trash talking when he squares off against his older brother.

“Oh, most definitely,” Williams said. “We’re probably going to talk crazy during that game. It’s definitely something we dreamed about as kids. We never really got to play against or with each other on the same teams because of the age difference. So I think being able to do that now is definitely the dream come true.”
