Who is Jake Diebler? 3 things to know about Ohio State men's basketball interim coach

In Ohio State men's basketball's first game after Chris Holtmann's firing, Jake Diebler led the Buckeyes to an upset.

The Ohio State interim head coach helped the Buckeyes to a 73-69 win against No. 2 Purdue in Columbus for the program's second ranked win of the 2023-24 season.

Here are three things to know about Diebler.

Jake Diebler holds two Ohio high school basketball records

Diebler made a name for himself as an Ohio high school basketball player.

At Upper Sandusky High School, Jake Diebler, along with his father Keith and his brother Jon, won a Division II state title after an undefeated 2005 season.

Jake Diebler finished his high school career as the all-time Ohio high school career leader in assists (835) and steals (578).

Diebler's success brought him to Valparaiso where he finished his career with 130 steals and 229 assists.

Jake Diebler was an OSU men's basketball video coordinator

After working on the Valparaiso men's basketball coaching staff from 2010-13, Diebler started on the ground floor for Ohio State in 2014.

Diebler joined head coach Thad Matta's staff as a video coordinator and remained in the role from 2014-16.

After three years as the Vanderbilt assistant coach, Diebler joined Holtmann's staff in 2019 as an assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach in 2022.

Since returning to Ohio State in 2019, Diebler has coached in two NCAA Tournaments and helped the Buckeyes to back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Jake Diebler's brother is the all-time 3-point record holder at Ohio State

Jake Diebler's brother was a record-breaking Ohio State men's basketball player.

From 2008-11, Jon Diebler became Ohio State's all-time 3-point record holder, making 374 of his 900 3-point attempts across four seasons.

Jon Diebler also left Upper Sandusky as the all-time leading scorer in Ohio high school basketball history with 3,208 points.

Jon Diebler is now the director of recruiting at Butler under Matta.
