Jaguars to sign Colts WR Moncrief
The Jacksonville Jaguars added a big-ticket item to their offense Wednesday, giving 24-year-old wide receiver Donte Moncrief up to $38 million as part of a four-year contract, with the NFL Network reporting $18 million is guaranteed.
Moncrief was a third-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2014 out of Ole Miss. After 96 catches and nine touchdowns in the first two seasons, his production dropped significantly due to injuries and the unavailability of quarterback Andrew Luck.
Moncrief made 30 catches in nine games in 2016, then 26 receptions for 391 yards in 12 games last season.
With Allen Robinson heading to the Chicago Bears, Moncrief could start opposite Marqise Lee, re-signed by the Jaguars to a four-year deal similar to how Moncrief's contract is structured.
Lee, 26, has caught 171 passes for 2,166 yards and eight touchdowns in his four seasons with the Jaguars since being taken in the second round in 2014. His best season came in 2016, when Lee caught 63 passes for 851 yards and three touchdowns.
Earlier Wednesday, former first-round pick D.J. Hayden agreed to a three-year deal with the Jaguars.
The cornerback was drafted 12th overall in 2013 but never lived up to the billing with the Oakland Raiders and signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions last year.
