Ja Morant not expected to play vs Chicago Bulls due to thigh injury
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is out for Monday night's game against the Chicago Bulls due to right thigh soreness, the team announced.
It is the first game Morant is missing this regular season.
According to Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins, Morant first started dealing with soreness after the loss to the Houston Rockets on Friday. Morant, who was questionable before Saturday's home opener against the Orlando Magic, played through the injury in the 124-111 win.
After the game, Morant said he wouldn't have played if it wasn't for Grizzlies fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, persuading him to play.
Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane and Scotty Pippen Jr. will handle most of the point guard duties in Morant's absence. Pippen had a Grizzlies season-high 12 assists in Saturday's win against the Magic.
