The internet cringed at Fergie's NBA All-Star national anthem just like you did
The NBA All-Star Game was, according to most listings, supposed to start at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday night. It ended up starting at 8:41. What’s more, the 41-minute pregame routine was an absolute disaster.
And it saved the worst for last. Fergie’s national anthem was … well, just watch players’ facial expressions, and listen for yourself:
Literally dying at these reactions. Fergie with the worst rendition ever. Embiid pic.twitter.com/ociAsWf0LC

Draymond Green couldn’t help but break into laughter:

The internet collectively cringed as Fergie got deeper and deeper into it.
Oh no, Fergie.. no, no, no..
— Kevin Negandhi (@KNegandhiESPN) February 19, 2018
fergie run it back

It was so bad, it made people actually want to watch the Winter Olympics:
I need some olympics right now after watching Fergie destroy the National Anthem.
— Jeff Smith (@jsmittyou) February 19, 2018
I know it's short notice – but it would be great if one of these #icedancing teams skated to Fergie's version of the U.S. national anthem #NBAAllStar #olympics
— Dan Speerin (@danspeerin) February 19, 2018
Hate to say it but if I’m on the committee in South Korea and I hear that Fergie national anthem, USA is disqualified from the rest of the Olympics.
— Tommy Carver (@HarryTomC) February 19, 2018
And of course …
Also, in the spirit of the Olympics and #Fergie's, um, "performance," this is a great opportunity to bring up Carl Lewis's rendition of the anthem. Enjoy and stay for Charlie Steiner's laugh. https://t.co/3mqZRiM9tL

Fergie’s version was not only rough; it was loooooooong. And when it finally did wrap up, the internet had its collective say:
Fergie chopped and screwed the anthem
— Dan Devine (@YourManDevine) February 19, 2018
fergie owe us all an apology
— 45 Savage (@thenudequeen) February 19, 2018
I'm not so certain that went the way fergie thought it went
— Shea Serrano (@SheaSerrano) February 19, 2018
she’s trying to have a marvin gaye moment and it’s most certainly not happening
— Harry Lyles Jr. (@harrylylesjr) February 19, 2018
Fergie attempted to go full Winehouse
— Pablo S. Torre (@PabloTorre) February 19, 2018
Even Carl Lewis thinks Fergie's anthem was trash.
— mike freeman (@mikefreemanNFL) February 19, 2018
Fergie's singing style can best be described as "spotty cellphone signal as you drive through the Lincoln Tunnel".

Of course, there were Colin Kaepernick-related jokes:
Fergie sang that Anthem so bad, Kaepernick stood up and told her not to disrespect the Anthem like that. pic.twitter.com/IXmMhupcsw
— BLACK ADAM SCHEFTER (@B1ackSchefter) February 19, 2018
fergie so woke her voice knelt during the anthem
— Rembert Browne (@rembert) February 19, 2018
Apparently, though, a cringe-worthy Fergie national anthem is not a new phenomenon:
Apparently, Fergie has been butchering anthems for years… pic.twitter.com/wvXEUMgz3v

It was the last straw of an awful half-hour of television:
That's legitimately one of the worst pregames I've ever seen in sports and it took a half-hour
— Zack Goldman (@ThatDamnYank) February 19, 2018
This is what happens when your opponent won't skip intros on 2K
— max (@MaxOnTwitter) February 19, 2018
This is like a masterpiece of awfulness. This entire pre-game (anthems included) should be sent to Springfield.
— Andrew Joseph (@AndyJ0seph) February 19, 2018
I am appointing a special counsel to probe this pregame
— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) February 19, 2018
Kevin Hart: “I just engineered the biggest pre-game disaster in television history.”
Fergie: “Hold my beer.”— Tim Ring (@timringTV) February 19, 2018
Forget fixing the All-Star Game. How about we fix the pregame first.
