Iconic Purdue basketball coach Gene Keady suffers stroke, 'expected to make full recovery'

WEST LAFAYETTE − Purdue basketball practice began Monday with a new crop of Boilermakers running up and down Gene Keady Court.

The man whose name is emblazoned on the hardwood inside Mackey Arena was not there.

Last week, Keady suffered a minor stroke and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

More: Gene Keady's Purdue never made Final Four. But in many ways, this one belongs to him.

He is expected to make a full recovery after being transferred to a rehab facility, according to a post on the Purdue men's basketball X account.

Keady coached Purdue from 1980-2005 and is the program's all-time winningest coach with a record of 512-270.

Among his many career accolades, which includes seven Big Ten and six National Coach of the Year awards is his 2023 induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
