What is Hubert Davis’ salary as UNC basketball coach?
North Carolina’s Hubert Davis isn’t among the 50 highest-paid men’s basketball coaches, according to USA TODAY Sports' annual review of coaching compensation.
Of the salary information calculated by USA TODAY Sports and gathered from 12 of the ACC’s 15 programs – excluding Duke’s Jon Scheyer, Syracuse’s Adrian Autry and Notre Dame’s Micah Shrewsberry – Davis comes in at eighth among ACC coaches at $2.6 million in total pay for the 2023-24 season. His school pay is $1.85 million.
Virginia’s Tony Bennett is the highest-paid coach in the league at slightly above $4 million.
Davis, 53, can earn just over $1 million in performance bonuses. He was named ACC Coach of the Year after leading the Tar Heels to their first ACC regular-season championship since 2017.
Those achievements will give him a $25,000 bonus, which pushes his season total in bonuses to $75,000 this season, according to USA TODAY Sports reporter Steve Berkowitz.

Davis also earned $750,000 in outside income. In August 2022, after leading UNC to the 2022 national championship game, Davis signed a six-year contract extension worth around $16.7 million.
Davis has a career record of 74-29 overall across three seasons, including a 43-17 mark in the ACC. UNC is the top seed in the 2024 ACC Tournament.
Kansas’ Bill Self is the sport’s highest-paid coach, followed by Kentucky’s John Calipari, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, Auburn’s Bruce Pearl and Tennessee’s Rick Barnes to round out the top five salaries.
