Highlights: Saints fall 16-10 to the 49ers on the road

The New Orleans Saints didn't get the outcome they wanted in the second preseason game of the 2024 season, falling 16-10 to the San Francisco 49ers on the road Sunday night.

One of the themes of the game was solid quarterback play for the backup position for both respective teams as Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener managed the football well for New Orleans, while Josh Dobbs, Brandon Allen and Tanner Mordecai did their jobs executing for the San Francisco offense.

But in an exciting, while low-scoring affair, it was the home team that ultimately got the better of the matchup. The 49ers defense had what it took to stave off a last-minute effort by Haener and company on a 15-play, 63-yard drive to win the game in the final minutes with a turnover on downs. That was secured by an incompletion from Haener on a pass intended for wide receiver A.T. Perry on 4th-and-7 with just under two minutes left in the game. The Saints allowed the clock to run to avoid adding any injuries to the list as the 49ers headed into victory formation.
