Here's why Alec Ingold is No. 14 on our Dolphins' Top 20 players countdown

The Dolphins had six Pro Bowlers after last season.

Tua Tagovailoa, Terron Armstead, Tyreek Hill, Raheem Mostert and Jalen Ramsey were predictable.

Fullback Alec Ingold, while very deserving, was not.

Why Alec Ingold is No. 14

Ingold is a devastating lead blocker, both in the run game and pass game.

Ingold is a capable receiver, lining up all over the field.

And Ingold is a team captain, one of the very best leaders on the Dolphins.

Telling stat

81.3: That was Ingold's catch percentage last season, with 13 catches on 16 targets. Ingold was Pro Football Focus' fourth-graded receiving fullback, just behind Kyle Juszczyk of the 49ers.

Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs (39) loses his helmet while trying to make a tackle on Miami Dolphins fullback Alec Ingold (30) during the first half of an NFL game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Nov. 19, 2023.

How we see Alec Ingold's future

Ingold, 27, is in the first year of a 3-year, $12.2 million contract extension.

Coach Mike McDaniel likes to go against the grain, and that means using a fullback when most NFL offenses do not.

"Ingold is very involved in every game," McDaniel said. "He doesn’t get a ton of targets, but he’s one of the reasons other people get successful targets, whether it be a clean pocket or identification on how to run a tricky route from the backfield."
