The Detroit Tigers are moving onto the ALDS in the 2024 MLB playoffs, winning their first postseason series since 2013.

The Tigers took down the Astros 5-2 in Game 2 of the AL wild-card series in Houston to advance to the next round. The No. 6 seed Tigers will face the No. 2 seed Cleveland Guardians in the best-of-five series, beginning Saturday (1:08 p.m., TBS).

The Guardians won the regular-season series vs. the Tigers, 7-6, but the teams last played July 30, before the trade deadline. Cleveland won five games by one run, including two walkoffs. The Tigers outscored the Guardians, 60-50, in the 13 games. Both teams compete in the AL Central.

The Tigers will host Game 3 of the ALDS, and, if necessary, Game 4, at Comerica Park. It will be there first home playoff game since Oct. 5, 2014.

• Monday, Game 2, in Cleveland, 4:08 p.m., TBS

• Thursday, Oct. 10, Game 4 (if necessary) in Detroit

• Saturday, Oct. 12, Game 5 (if necessary) in Cleveland

Detroit Tigers recent postseason history

The Tigers' last postseason appearance in 2014 ended in the ALDS, where they were swept by the Baltimore Orioles in three games. The Tigers' last advanced to the best-of-seven AL Championship Series in 2013, and their last World Series appearance was in 2012. Their last World Series victory came in 1984.

On the other side of the AL playoff bracket, the Kansas City Royals and Orioles are battling in their wild-card series, where the winner will face the top-seeded New York Yankees.
