Hendon Hooker's debut with Detroit Lions cut short due to concussion

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Hendon Hooker waited more than a year to make his NFL debut, then waited another half Thursday night at MetLife Stadium. When he took the field on the first series of the second half, the offense started to move the ball.

Hooker made some things happen in his debut. It was cut short after two series when he suffered a concussion, said Dan Campbell. The second-year quarterback will go into league protocol.

Along with second-year receiver Antoine Green, who also had what Campbell described as kind of a “neck concussion.”

Campbell said he wasn’t sure how long either would be out.

“Obviously, we would have loved to got more time with (Hooker),” said Campbell, “but that’s one of those things that happens.”

Campbell said Hooker “got his bell rung” on one of his four runs (he rushed four 34 yards). And that the young quarterback will need to learn when to stay in the pocket and when to leave it.

In other injury news:

Defensive back Morice Norris left the game with a hamstring injury. Defensive end Nate Lynn left with a shoulder issue. Defensive tackle David Bada left with an Achilles injury. And offensive lineman Connor Galvin left with a knee injury.

Campbell said Bada and Galvin’s injuries could be significant.

Campbell promised his team got good work this week in New Jersey, but said it’s been a long week, and the team is ready to get back home.
