The Hawks are sending Carmelo Anthony the jersey he wanted, presumably to clown them

Carmelo Anthony, whose Atlanta Hawks career lasted just long enough for him to clear waivers, wanted a jersey from the team he never played for, so they obliged with one bearing his No. 15.

The Hawks informed Anthony his jersey was “on it’s way” in a tweet on Thursday:

The gesture went viral enough for Anthony’s longtime friend, LeBron James, to weigh in with a joke:

Good one, guys. I know Atlanta fans will be delighted to know that in addition to trading Dennis Schröder for a lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick and the right to pay Anthony $25.5 million to go away, because they will be so bad that there’s no use for a 10-time All-Star who didn’t want to play for them anyway, the Hawks will send him a custom jersey he could’ve bought at the NBA Store for $150.

Upon clearing waivers, Anthony signed with the Rockets for another $2.4 million.

This will be hilarious when Anthony hangs it along with his Nuggets, Knicks, Thunder and Rockets jerseys in his man cave. Friends will ask a decade from now, “Hey, I don’t remember you playing for the Hawks,” and Anthony will take a long sip of wine before responding, “I didn’t, but they bought me this mansion for not playing for them, and then gave me this jersey for us to laugh at them about.”

And then a bathrobed Melo will smile, imagining all the shots he could have jacked in Atlanta.
