Gustav Nyquist talks Filip Forbserg, Predators 'little remodel' in Nashville introduction

First off, you can call him Gus.

Second, Gustav Nyquist doesn't have a social media account, which he announced Wednesday just before he recorded his "Hello, Nashville," video for the team's social media use.

Not even an Instagram account that bears his name and boasts some NHL-affiliated followers?

"That's not me," he said.

Third, Nyquist is here for the "remodel."

Fourth, he has a sense of humor.

The 33-year-old center is part of new general manager Barry Trotz's first free-agent class that includes Ryan O'Reilly and Luke Schenn. Nyquist was in Nashville on Wednesday for the first time as a Predator after he signed a two-year, $6.37 million contract with the team July 1, the first day of free agency.

"It's an exciting stage of this organization, a little 'remodel,' " he said. "You have really good building blocks in every position, (Filip) Forsberg, (Roman) Josi and (Juuse) Saros. Me and my family couldn't be happier to be here."

Nyquist said he looks forward to lending an ear or words of advice for the team's younger players when they feel they need it. He has 175 goals and 253 assists in 703 games spanning 11 seasons. His best season was 2018-19, when he set career highs in goals (22) and assists (38) with the Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks.

An uppder-body injury limited him to 51 games last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild. Trotz hinted that Nyquist could see time with center Cody Glass next season. Nyquist said he'll play wherever the team needs him.

He showed off his sense of humor again when a reporter was apologetically tardy to his gathering with the media Wednesday inside a locker room at Centennial Sportsplex.

"You're late," he said with a smile.

When asked by the same reporter whether he had a prior relationship with fellow Swede Forsberg, Nyquist showed his sense of humor again.

"Filip, I've gotten the question - but not here, so you're good," he said. "It's funny, you think from Sweden everyone knows each other, but not really. We're kind of far away from each other in Sweden."

Nyquist added that he and Forsberg won a world championship in Copenhagen in 2018 as part of Team Sweden, along with former Predators Viktor Arvidsson and Mattias Ekholm.

"Good memories with him," Nyquist said.

And, he hopes, many more during their time together with the Predators.
