Gus Kenworthy slams Ivanka Trump at Closing Ceremony, notes Russia's 'biggest win' since '16 election
The PyeongChang Games and international politics have been inseparable.
From Russia’s doping ban and reported retaliatory hacking of the Opening Ceremony to the political gamesmanship among host South Korea, North Korea and the United States, much of the story of these Games has been about what’s happened outside the field of competition.
U.S. athletes have not been afraid to speak up with speedskater Shani Davis raising controversy over not being selected flag bearer and gay figure skater Adam Rippon mixing it up with Vice President Mike Pence for his history of anti-LGBT stances.
Now skier Gus Kenworthy, another openly gay Olympian who is not a fan of Pence, has taken this red-hot shot across the bow of U.S.-Russian politics with this fiery tweet on the dusk of the Winter Games in response to Russia’s gold medal win in hockey.
Russia's biggest win since the 2016 US Presidential election! https://t.co/UQU6cWPs8Z

That’s an obvious reference to the Russian meddling in the 2016 election of Donald Trump that has dominated U.S. politics and news since November of that year.
Kenworthy, clearly not a fan of the Trump administration, wasn’t done taking on the White House. He took this photo of U.S. athletes ahead of Sunday’s Closing Ceremony as an opportunity to slam first daughter and West Wing adviser Ivanka Trump, who is in PyeongChang as a representative of the U.S. delegation at the Olympics.
So proud of all these people! Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well… Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here?? pic.twitter.com/sfJKi0VTDb

Note the time stamp. Kenworthy felt compelled enough to send that tweet during the Closing Ceremony.
The U.S. medal haul may have disappointed in PyeongChang, but athletes have not come up short in being outspoken.
