Guelph Storm Ryan McGuire Suspended For Reckless Check To The Head
The OHL has a new Director of Player Safety — Greg Kimmerly — and has already been busy handing out several suspensions this past week.
Last Thursday, the league announced that Guelph Storm forward Ryan McGuire had been suspended seven games for his check to the head of Flint Firebird forward Kaden Pitre in Guelph's game against Flint on Oct. 25.
One day following the hit, McGuire was handed an indefinite suspension for his dangerous hit, later finding out his faith on Halloween.

Flint was blowing out Guelph 7-2, and with under seven minutes left to play, McGuire tracked back deep into his zone and propelled his shoulder up into Pitre's head.
He was assessed a game misconduct and a major penalty for checking to the head on the play.
The forward has gained a reputation for his aggressive physical style of play during his three years in the league. However, this time he crossed the line, as Kimmerly stated that the hit fell into the category of "reckless disregard" for an opponent.

He has accumulated 249 penalty minutes over 175 OHL regular season games. Ryan eclipsed the 100-penalty-minute mark last season with 103.
The OHL's Department of Player Safety assessed three games for the hit itself and an additional four games due to McGuire being a repeat offender of hits to the head dating back to the 2023-24 season.
McGuire is eligible to return to Guelph's lineup on Nov. 15 when the top team in the East Niagara IceDogs roll into town.
