Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant out vs. Suns due to shoulder injury
The Memphis Grizzlies will be without two-time All-Star point guard Ja Morant on Sunday against the Suns in Phoenix, the team announced. Morant is missing the game in Phoenix while dealing with right shoulder soreness.
He had been listed as questionable; Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins had called him a game-time decision, saying Morant would test the shoulder before the game.
This is the second game he has missed since making his season debut Dec. 19 after a 25-game suspension. Memphis (12-23) is 6-20 without Morant.
The Suns (19-16) are getting Kevin Durant back in the lineup after he missed the past three games because of a hamstring injury.
Memphis likely will start Marcus Smart at point guard. Desmond Bane also will be called upon to share ballhandling duties.
Luke Kennard will join Smart, Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Bismack Biyombo in the starting lineup.
Vince Williams Jr., who has missed the past three games, is available to play for the Grizzlies.
