Grizzlies star Ja Morant pops up at youth basketball camp in Memphis, delivers Nike gear

In an Instagram post, Ja Morant announced, "coach 12ski is back!"

The Memphis Grizzlies all-star point guard surprised a group of children at a local basketball camp event at Streets Ministries in Graham Heights. Morant played basketball with the campers before coaching them through drills and leaving them with a message.

"Believe in yourself," Morant said. "Have confidence in yourself. There's going to be a lot of outside stuff that distracts your from your ultimate goal. Just stay locked in, tune it out and stay true to yourself."

Morant provided the kids with Nike backpacks and other gear, including a pair of Ja 1s. On the T-shirts read the words, "only basketball," which has been a slogan Nike basketball has been promoting. Toronto Raptors star Pascal Siakam, another Nike basketball athlete, also recently hosted a similar camp in Toronto.

This is the first notable camp Morant has done in Memphis since he announced the start of his own signature shoe on Christmas of last year. The date the camp was held is unknown.

Outside of the releases of his signature Ja 1 shoes and a recent appearance at the Nike World Basketball Festival, Morant has mostly avoided the spotlight.

The Grizzlies star spent the first month of the offseason awaiting word on a possible suspension, which ended up being 25 games for conduct detrimental to the league. He was not seen at Grizzlies Summer League games in Las Vegas or any other team-related offseason events.

Morant's first chance at returning this season is likely to be Dec. 19 against the New Orleans Pelicans.
