Grizzlies sign Trey Jemison to two-way contract after GG Jackson gets new deal
The Memphis Grizzlies signed center Trey Jemison to a two-way contract, the team announced Friday morning.
The two-way roster spot was open because rookie forward GG Jackson — who had been on a two-way deal — was signed to a standard NBA contract earlier on Friday. That created the opportunity for Jemison, who had been with the Grizzlies on a 10-day contract that was set to expire Friday.
Jemison signed the 10-day contract with Memphis after playing on a 10-day contract for the Wizards. Before that, he'd been with the Birmingham Squadron of the NBA G League. He played a significant role for the Grizzlies while on a 10-day contract as Memphis dealt with an injury crisis and had almost no depth in the frontcourt.
Jemison, who played his college basketball at Clemson and UAB, averaged 5.8 points, 4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game during his 10-day contract with the Grizzlies. He joins Scotty Pippen Jr. and Jacob Gilyard as the two-way players currently on the Grizzlies roster.
The Grizzlies were busy at the trade deadline, sending out Steven Adams, Xavier Tillman Sr. and David Roddy. They waived two of the players they got back — Victor Oladipo and Chimezie Metu — while Yuta Watanabe and Lamar Stevens are expected to join the fold.
