Grizzlies' Scotty Pippen Jr. to be out at least three weeks because of back injury

The hits keep on coming for the Memphis Grizzlies.

The latest injury update is to two-way guard Scotty Pippen Jr., who injured his back in Monday's loss to the Pelicans. He missed the next two games because of back soreness, and the Grizzlies announced Thursday night that an MRI revealed a bulging disc in his lower back.

He will be re-evaluated in three weeks, the Grizzlies said.

Pippen's back problem is the latest injury update in a season full of them. The Grizzlies went into this season with high expectations, but Ja Morant played in only nine games because of a suspension and then a subsequent shoulder injury in January that required surgery and ended his season. Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart and Derrick Rose have missed significant time as well, and Brandon Clarke has yet to play this season as he works his way back from an Achilles injury he suffered last season.

The Grizzlies were without 10 players on Thursday night but still managed to beat the Milwaukee Bucks thanks to impressive performances from GG Jackson, Ziaire Williams and Vince Williams Jr.

Pippen was signed in January to a two-way deal but has made significant contributions for the Grizzlies. In eight games, he's averaging 10.5 points and 4.5 assists. He played 17 or more minutes in seven of those games.

The Grizzlies are off for the All-Star break and will return Feb. 23 at home against the Clippers.
