Good, bad and ugly of the pro wrestling week: WWE's women's U.S. title, pile drivers and MJF's fan encounter
Previously on GBU, Jey Uso got some sound-barrier-shattering pops, Iyo Sky flourished and Darby Allin did a Darby Allin thing.
In the week since, we’ve seen stories progress as we march along toward WWE’s "Survivor Series: WarGames" and AEW’s "Full Gear," but between those progressions are everything from new championship belts to fresh, dope entrances. Let’s take a moment to put some of the week's happenings under a microscope to analyze a lot of good, a little bad and a dash of ugly. Without further ado, let’s mark out and scrutinize all of it.
The Good
The first Women’s U.S. Champion will be crowned soon
The women of WWE continue to show that they are the very best in the business. The Women’s United States Championship will showcase their continued effort.
So, who’s going to step up and take it? pic.twitter.com/Zyg5mzhWiC— Triple H (@TripleH) November 9, 2024
Every so often WWE makes an announcement that the entire roster and vast majority of fans seem to agree is a great thing. This is one of those instances. It makes a ton of sense to add a new title to a growing division so that it can be used to heighten stakes, build résumés and give those who aren’t in the Women’s Championship mix another title to strive for.
The Motor City Machine Guns have a ridiculously dope entrance
I ain't gonna lie, MCMG gotta have one of the BEST entrances right now in WWE.
Their presentation has been Top-notch so far 🔥 #SmackDown

Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin’s debut last month was cool, but their entrance has gotten smoother and it seems the pyro and synchronized finger guns being perfectly timed has turned this into a high-level entrance worthy of their guns-blazin’ start in WWE.
Liv Morgan might be on the Rock/Cena/Batista wrestling-to-Hollywood pipeline
In conversation with Uncrowned’s Cameron Hawkins, Liv Morgan discussed interest in Hollywood crossover opportunities, stating, "I audition regularly. I would love to be involved in more film, television, media. I just want to see what I can do in that space, and for WWE to be involved in that and to be supportive of that and to be helping me, guide me through all that is really amazing and cool, too. But I just want to see what I can do.”
Action, comedy, drama — name any genre and I can totally see Morgan fitting right in. Though selfishly it’s been a treat watching her Revenge Tour play out, if she can get a bag and add to her IMDb, more power to her. Make no mistake, the quickest way to turn her haters into lovers would be to disappear for awhile to make a film. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Jade Cargill dropped a gnarly new move

A wrestler trying to improve and expand his or her arsenal? Love to see it. Wish it happened more often, but when fans make legends of guys who spam German suplexes or hit a spear and some mid-finisher named after a power tool, there's little reason to push the envelope. However, Cargill might be doing that, and given her size and aesthetic, this new move seems to have potential in a division where she dwarfs much of the competition. Plus, think about how cool it’ll be to see her land one of these on Bianca Belair when they inevitably split up.
Dakota Kai returned

Kai is back in the ring, back in the win column and back with Damage CTRL — all undeniably good things. The question is, will Kai will be more prominently featured while serving as part of a a talent-rich stable in a crowded division full of deserving competition.
Lio Rush & Komander had a good wrestling match
Got a spare five minutes, 33 seconds? Trust me, this will be worth it. Just sit back, take a breath, and tap play. Then enjoy some quality rasslin’. So often we’re enamored with the story, it’s nice to just enjoy two skilled athletes who share chemistry putting on a fantastic performance.
The Good Right Now But Definitely Gonna End Bad, Right?
Jon Moxley is allegedly in charge of his Death Riders gimmick …
Dave Meltzer via WOR says Jon Moxley is fully in-charge of his new Death Riders gimmick in AEW.
“Tony [Khan] is letting him do what he wants. Tony has to approve everything but he's pretty much in charge of turning this place around with this gimmick.” pic.twitter.com/DEwKljNICZ— Drainmaker 🌧️ 💵 (@DrainBamager) November 12, 2024
Yes, Moxley’s been killing it as his title run takes off and he builds an imposing presence as the face that runs the place, but doesn’t talent having too much creative power seem risky?
We’ve got to have an example of wrestlers having too much control.
Can anyone think of a time that’s happened?
What could possibly go wrong?
The Bad
Taped “Raw” and “Smackdown”
Per PWInsider, WWE will be DOUBLE TAPING a lot of RAW and SmackDown episodes in the near future. The current shows scheduled for double taping so far...
- SmackDown: Nov 22 & Nov 29
- SmackDown: Dec 13 & Dec 20
- RAW: Dec 16 & Dec 23
MORE TAPED SHOWS 🥲 pic.twitter.com/soDvo8iIjb— EliteRockerz 𝕏 (@EliteClubS0B) November 13, 2024
It seems we’re going to be getting more and more of these pre-taped shows, and it’s unfortunate that’s happening during such an eventful time, with Survivor Series approaching, because anyone on wrestling Twitter or TikTok is susceptible to spoilers. It stinks. And even if you manage to avoid spoilers (like this), there’s something less thrilling about watching current storylines play out when they were recorded a week or so prior.
The Hurt Syndicate coming off a lil’ thirsty
There needs to be more exclusivity here. If MVP is offering The Acclaimed and seemingly everyone else a business card and immediately getting rejected, it sort of erases the mystique. If I walk past a club with no entry line and people walking out saying, “Absolutely not,” where's the appeal?
Christian Cage & comments about his opponents' dads

I know the savage father-related-diss thing is standard for Cage, but I wonder if it’s time for something fresh, something new, something, anything other than this.
The Ugly That Could’ve been Uglier
MJF dropping a fan’s WWE belt at a meet-and-greet
MJF drops a fans’ WWE Championship after barely holding on to it for a photo with a fan.

Whether you consider it good that he’s keeping kayfabe alive or bad that he’s disrespecting someone’s property, the one undeniable truth is that it’s a cold-blooded, ugly move. Personally, I think bringing MJF a belt from a rivaling company is an act that’s begging to be met with hostility, so overall it went better than I’d expect.
The Equal Parts Bad and Ugly
Samantha Irvin calls BS on those "deleted tweets" by Ricochet slamming "WWE shills"
Ricochet is kicking ass in AEW (and elsewhere) and isn't tweeting/deleting grievances about WWE 🙄 pic.twitter.com/fEVsykwDcK— SEScoops (@sescoops) November 13, 2024
Someone faked a Ricochet meltdown on X and people immediately ran with it. It's a s***ty thing to do and it also feels oddly time-consuming. The person responsible should consider finding a hobby, but this probably won't be the last incident of this kind.
Misinformation circulating on Twitter and fooling the gullible/willingly ignorant masses? It happens.
The Ugly
AEW has several shared names
Tony Khan and AEW have the biggest quality control problem I've seen in my life.
16 different groups of wrestlers share the same name. In WWE, across three different shows, there's only one case of this between Bron Breakker and Braun Strowman😂 pic.twitter.com/ICDOXsIrAP— Alfred Konuwa (@ThisIsNasty) November 8, 2024
This is an absolutely hilarious but inexcusable problem to have. Someone send AEW a name generator so these poor guys can think outside of the ADAM-labeled box holding 'em hostage.
WWE is treating piledrivers like an unthinkable life-endangering blunt-force trauma
Corey just said the Piledriver has been banned in WWE for years
They are taking Randy out on a stretcher
We are in a new era man
This is how you sell a fucking dangerous move dawg! pic.twitter.com/guIXp5HeW0— Julian Weeks (@JulianWks) November 9, 2024
Banning piledrivers and doing them only once in a while then acting like someone’s just been run over by a bus when they're hit with one is brilliant. It works so well. I wince when I see one. It's nauseating, really. How could you just dump an opponent on their neck like that? Cruel. Inhumane. This isn't 1995, we're not animals.
So, when someone does do a piledriver, it's tough to look at. Kevin Owens has done many violent things in recent weeks but what really showed fans that he is an uncontrollable, deeply violent man? A quick pile driver on Orton. Boom. Now the vibe is: Kevin Owens belongs in prison.
I hope someday we do this with superkicks and spears, so the oversaturated market that's diluted them can be returned to the days when tuning up the band for Sweet Chin Music or a "Gore!" by Rhyno actually meant something.
Until next week, keep your eyes peeled for the good, shut for bad and wide-ass open for the cringe-worthy, hideously, grotesquely ugly.
