Giants vs. Vikings: 5 biggest storylines for Week 1
The New York Giants host the Minnesota Vikings in their 2024 regular season opener this Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants are coming off a disappointing 2023 season where they finished 6-11. They were very active this offseason and hope they've addressed most of their needs.
Here are five storylines we'll be following in Week 1.
A century of thrills
Giant fans will be treated to many events and other perks as the franchise celebrates its 100th year of existence.
On Sunday, they will wear their "Century Red" uniforms to commemorate the multiple uniforms and championships worn and won throughout the years.
Leeeeek!
Sunday will mark the NFL debut of first-round pick Malik Nabers, who the Giants selected with the sixth overall pick in this year's NFL draft.
Nabers is a dynamic player who the Giants hope will open up their offense, which was at the bottom of the league in both yardage and scoring a year ago.
Nabers has shown the ability to make the acrobatic catch. Not only does he have the chance to turn things around for Big Blue, but he can do it in entertaining fashion.
Welcome to the SpiderVerse
The Giants' other big acquisition this offseason -- Pro Bowl edge rusher Brian Burns -- will also be making his Giants debut this Sunday.
Burns, who likens himself to Marvel superhero Spider-Man, is one of the top pass rushers in the game and will combine with linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to create a formidable trio on the Giants' defensive front.
Who's No. 2?
The Giants' No. 2 cornerback spot was still being contested as of this week. Head coach Brian Daboll said he would make a decision on who will start closer to game time.
Cor'Dale Flott, Nick McCloud, Tre Hawkins III, and Adoree' Jackson are all candidates for the role.
Daboll seemed to favor the recently-signed Jackson on Friday, but clearly the team failed to get this important role filled this offseason.
Last chance for Jones
Quarterback Daniel Jones' fate as the Giants' starter may already be sealed but don't tell him that. He's primed and ready to fight for his future.
He will have a revamped offensive line in front of him, a new running back group, and a cadre of explosive receiving options at his disposal.
It's all up to Daniel now to prove his worth.
