Giants vs. Commanders: Week 2 staff picks and predictions
The New York Giants (0-1) will take on the Washington Commanders (0-1) this Sunday afternoon at Northwest Stadium in their second game of the 2024 regular season.
Opening the week, the Giants were 2.5-point road underdogs and that spread has improved slightly with Washington -1.5 as of this writing.
How does the Giants Wire staff see this Week 2 battle shaking out? Here's a look at our picks and score predictions:
Dan Benton: Commanders 20, Giants 10
The Giants have provided no reason to believe in their offense since 2022 and even a potential "get-right" game against the Commanders doesn't provide as much optimism as it once did. Quarterback Daniel Jones and linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux have each owned Washington throughout their careers but it's hard to believe that trend continues. Washington may be a rebuilding team going through major struggles, but the Giants don't look like they belong in the NFL at this point. Harsh? Maybe. Or maybe reality is just setting in.
John Fennelly: Giants 26, Commanders 20
Big Blue continues their dominance over Washington as Daniel Jones finds his rhythm again, hooking up with his young receiving corps like he did in training camp. The Giants’ defense also finds its identity in this game and shuts down explosive rookie Jayden Daniels. It won’t be pretty but a win is a win.
Tyler Henry: Giants 24, Commanders 20
The Giants desperately need a rebound game, so a Commanders team that the Giants have owned over the last two years could be exactly what the doctor ordered. I expect big games from Kayvon Thibodeaux and Daniel Jones on Sunday to help the Giants secure the win.
Serena Burks: Commanders 21, Giants 10
The Giants locker room is a circus right now. Players are frustrated, fans are angry and it seems like Brian Daboll is completely disconnected when it comes to personnel decisions. The Commanders are a young team behind a rookie quarterback who has been relatively quiet yet productive. I have basically no faith in the Giants right now, especially on the road.
Jeevan Kirkland: Commanders 23, Giants 13
The Giants flat-out looked terrible in Week 1. Until proven otherwise, picking against the Giants seems like a safe move. The defense will face less talent at receiver this time but the threat of Jayden Daniels' mobility poses a problem for this defense who let backup pocket passer Sam Darnold have a career game.
Offensively, the Giants had nothing going and while the Commanders' defense is far from good, they should still be able to keep Daniel Jones in check. Brian Daboll will need to call a much better game to keep this one close and given the play calling last week there is not much hope.
