The New York Giants (0-1) face the Washington Commanders (0-1) this Sunday down in the Nation's capital in a game where the loser will find themselves all alone in the NFC East cellar.

The big storyline will focus on each team's first-round draft pick, quarterback Jayden Daniels of Washington and Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers, who were college teammates at LSU.

Here are five other storylines we are following before Sunday's game.

Malik Nabers is "good to go"

Giants first round draft pick Malik Nabers appeared on the injury report this week with a knee issue, leading to Giant fans to let out a collective sigh. One of the only bright spots from their opening week debacle of a performance could miss some time.

But...no worries. On Friday, head coach Brian Daboll gave reporters the good news on Nabers.

"He's going to practice. We'll see how he feels when he gets out here, but no concern. He'll be ready to play," he said.

The hot seat is warming up for Jones, Daboll

The Giants needed to start fast this season. The 28-6 drubbing at the hands of Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1 was not encouraging, to say the least.

Should they lose this Sunday in Washington, there will be talk of benching quarterback Daniel Jones and even the competency of Brian Daboll and his staff.

Success against Washington

The Giants are 3-0-1 in their four meetings against Washington under head coach Brian Daboll.

Daniel Jones has had some of his best games against the Commanders and has compiled a 5-1-1 record against them.

Note: Jones did not play in either meeting last season. Tyrod Taylor started one game while Tommy DeVito started the other. Both victories.

Underdogs again this week

The Giants are 1.5-point underdogs this week in Washington. It has become familiar territory for them of late.

Per Sharp Football, the Giants have now been underdogs in 17 straight games going back to last season, one game fewer than their longest streak in franchise history over the 1980-1981 seasons.

The over/under for this game is 43 total points. Giants games have been trending under (mainly due to their poor offensive output) -- 64.7 percent of games last season and in Week 1 this year.

There's a new returner in town

With Gunner Olszewski out and Darius Slayton in concussion protocol, the Giants signed veteran returner Ihmir Smith-Marsette this week.

Giants special teams coordinator Michael Ghobrial appeared to be excited about the new addition.

"I didn't realize how big he was until I saw him in person. He also has real, real speed. Like real speed," Ghobrial said. "Obviously, he's scored in this league before, so to see that type of production and to have him here is awesome. We'll continue to work him and continue to make sure that he's the best option in terms of securing the ball, which is number one priority for us."
