FSU football quarterback Jordan Travis felt 'disrespected all game' in overtime win over Clemson
CLEMSON, S.C. - No. 3 Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis wasn't shy with words when describing how the Seminoles felt during Saturday's game here against Clemson.
"I felt like we were disrespected all day," Travis said.
"You put one on one [coverage] against Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman I feel like you have no respect for the receiver or the quarterback. I missed a lot of throws early on against one-on-one, and I wish I could complete them, but we stepped up when we needed to."
"Keon [Coleman] made a big-time play and the offensive line gave me time. It's just a fade one-on-one. I like my guy every single time."
It was Coleman who caught the game-winning touchdown in overtime as FSU beat Clemson 31-24 for its win victory over the Tigers since 2014.
Coleman finished with 86 receiving yards on five receptions and Wilson had 94 receiving yards on five receptions.
It's the first time the duo has logged receiving yards in the same game since LSU in Week 1.
Travis completed 21 of 37 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns.
"I tell them if they don't double [cover] me, they can't cover me," Coleman said. "I tell Johnny that about himself. If they're not doubling us, they can't cover us."
A lasting memory
While Travis felt "disrespected" throughout the game, the moment of beating Clemson moved him to tears in the locker room.
He doesn't remember how Clemson failed to convert on fourth down in overtime to seal the victory, but he knows that the win symbolizes growth in his career and as a person.
"I had tears coming down my face in the locker room because of the journey and how far I've come as a man and as a player," Travis said. "I'm grateful. That was a really special moment."
Travis grew up in Palm Beach County an FSU fan and had beaten every one of the Seminoles rivals, except Clemson during his career.
He's beaten Miami twice, and Florida once and can now add Clemson to that list.
"Being a Florida Stat fan for so long, supporting the Noles and not coming out on top against Clemson is obviously hard," Travis said. "I played them three times and we didn't come out on top. I'm so grateful and thankful for this opportunity to come out here and be on the field with my boys, who I love so much.'
"I would do anything for this team and I'm so grateful for them, 'cause they'll do the same for me."
Dabo Swinney responds to Jordan Travis
At his press conference, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was asked about Travis' comment about being disrespected.
He said that he had a lot of respect for Travis and that he's an amazing player.
"We're trying to win the game," Swinney said.
"I mean, this kid, he can really, really run, and we felt like it gave us the best chance to create some pressure on him, not let him just sit there and pick us apart. "But, no, we were just trying to win the game. Again, I think he's an amazing player with a ton of heart."
