FSU baseball remains perfect after upset win over rival No. 8 Florida
Florida State baseball (15-0) passed its first major test of the season Tuesday with its 12-8 road victory over No. 8 Florida (10-6) at Condron Ballpark in front of 8,142 fans.
It's FSU's first win in Gainesville since 2020 and the Seminoles' 15-0 record is tied for the third-best start in program history.
FSU and Texas A&M are the last two undefeated teams in the country.
The Seminoles have also scored at least seven runs in 15 consecutive games, a school record. The previous high was 12 straight games in March 1986 and March 1996.
"I'm clearly very proud of the guys to walk in here against that caliber of team and essentially do things the way they have done them for the early part of the season," FSU head coach Link Jarrett said.
"Every phase of the game I was impressed with how we handled ourselves."
The Seminoles erupted on offense, building a 7-0 lead by the fourth inning.
The effort was highlighted by James Tibbs III eighth home run of the season off a three-run shot over the right field fence in the fourth that built the FSU lead up to 7-0.
Tibbs was 1-for-5 with three RBIs.
Drew Faurot had an impressive game, finishing 3-for-5 doubling twice, and scoring two runs. Daniel Cantu was 3-for-3, with two RBIs and was walked twice. Alex Lodise also had three RBIs.
The bats were alive for FSU as it out-hit Florida, 13-8. Nine Seminoles batters were also walked.
"We got beat in every phase," Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan said. "We got beat on the mound. Their hitters did a nice job. They ran the bases aggressively. They played clean defense."
The Gators (10-6) allowed nine or more runs for the fourth time in their last five games.
On the bump, FSU's Carson Dorsey (2-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four of 10 batters faced over two innings.
Andrew Armstrong allowed two runs on three hits, striking out three of 14 batters faced over three innings. Hudson Rowen struck out three of six batters faced over an inning of action.
In total, six FSU pitchers fanned 15 and only walked three.
FSU returns home on Friday for its ACC opening series against Notre Dame. First pitch on Friday is at 6 p.m. at Dick Howser Stadium.
