FSU baseball captures series at Boston College; softball holds off Louisville on road
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Florida State scored five runs in the seventh inning to defeat Boston College, 9-2, Sunday afternoon at the Harrington Athletics Village.
FSU improved to 26-5 and has won three of four ACC series on the season; the Eagles fell to 17-13 and 6-9 in the conference.
James Tibbs III hit a pair of bases-loaded doubles, finishing 2-for-5 with five RBI in the contest. Over his six-game hitting streak, Tibbs is hitting 15-for-25 with five doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI.

FSU hit three singles in the fifth inning, capped by Alex Lodise’s game-tying single. Boston College re-took the lead on a bases loaded hit by pitch in the sixth, one of four Eagles’ batters plunked by FSU pitching.
Freshman Cal Fisher tied the game with a solo home run in the seventh inning, his third of the year. The Noles took the lead later in the frame when Cam Smith drew a bases loaded walk and James Tibbs followed with a double to center field to score two more runs.
Tibbs’ three-run double in the eighth inning was again hit to the outfield wall, bouncing off the top just inches from his third grand slam of the year.
Brennen Oxford earned his first win of the year with 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
OF NOTE:
Starting pitcher Carson Dorsey allowed a double to BC’s first batter. After that, he retired nine straight and did not allow another hit over a season-high 5.0 innings in his first career start. Dorsey struck out three batters in the no-decision; he also had his team-high fourth pick-off of the year.
Freshman Cal Fisher earned his first career start at second base. He hit a game-tying home run with one out in the seventh inning, the first of FSU’s five runs in the frame. Fisher has three home runs on the year and is FSU’s only freshman position player to start a game this year.
James Tibbs III hit two bases-loaded doubles, finishing with five RBI. Over his season-high six-game hitting streak, Tibbs is hitting .600 (15-for-25) with five doubles, three home runs, 14 RBI, seven runs scored and just one strikeout. Florida State softball takes road series at Louisville
LOUISVILLE - The No. 18 Florida State softball team (28-10, 9-3) pulled out a tough 4-3 win over Louisville (23-16, 4,8) on Sunday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium in Louisville, Ky. Louisville struck first as they plated one run in the bottom of the first with a single. Runs became hard to come by as both pitching staffs settled in with neither team scoring another run until the fourth inning. FSU got on the board in the top of the fourth inning as Amaya Ross hit a ball to right field that was dropped by the right fielder to bring home both Michaela Edenfield and Jahni Kerr to give the Noles the lead. The Cardinals struck again in the bottom of the fifth with two runs of their own, but the Seminoles struck right back in the top of the sixth to regain the lead.
With runners on first and second, Katie Dack hit a ground ball to the shortstop who made an errant throw to try to get the force out at third allowing both Kennedy Harp and Isa Torres to score to give FSU the lead. Ashtyn Danley retired the side in order in the bottom of the sixth, but the Cardinals weren't going out without a fight in the bottom of the seventh. Louisville got the winning run on second base, but Makenna Reid came in on her 20th birthday and got the final two outs to secure the win. Reid picked up her first save of the season while Danley moved to 8-3 on the year.
The combo of Emma WIlson, Danley and Reid stifled the Louisville offense as the Seminole pitchers allowed just three hits while striking out five. FSU will return home next Friday, Saturday and Sunday for a series against Notre Dame.
