Freshman Dakota Jordan delivers walk-off win for Mississippi State baseball vs. Ole Miss
STARKVILLE – From Gavin Collins to Tanner Allen, Mississippi State baseball has had its share of players come through with memorable hits against rival Ole Miss at Dudy Noble Field. Freshman Dakota Jordan added his name to the list Saturday.
With his two-run single in the ninth inning, Mississippi State secured an 8-7 win against rival Ole Miss. The two will battle in the finale of the three-series on Sunday (1 p.m., SEC Network+) with both having won a game.
"Special moment for him," MSU coach Chris Lemonis said postgame. "I'm sure that's one he'll remember for the rest of his life."

Landon Gartman keeps MSU in game, defense falters
Lemonis moved starter Landon Gartman into Saturday’s spot after typically serving as the pitcher finales. It appeared to be a worthwhile move heading into the matchup with Mississippi State (21-15, 4-10 SEC) needing a veteran to even the series in front of a massive crowd.
Gartman, as has become the norm, kept Mississippi State in the game. He allowed just one earned run through five innings. However, he and his relievers got little help from the defense.

The game started with a throwing error from shortstop Lane Forsythe. Gartman worked around it for a scoreless first, but another error from Forsythe in the second inning cost MSU a run.
Graham Yntema replaced Gartman with the game tied after four innings, but allowed a two-out home run to Anthony Calarco to give Ole Miss the lead. In the sixth inning, Ole Miss (20-15, 3-11) added to its lead with a pair of unearned runs after a two-out throwing error from third baseman Slate Alford.
Xavier Rivas impresses, falters late
Mississippi State has struggles against left-handed pitching at times, and Ole Miss starter Xavier Rivas proved to be a struggle. After allowing a pair of runs in the second, Rivas settled into to retire 11 straight hitters.
However, he ran into trouble in the sixth with Colton Ledbetter's solo home run. That was followed up by a home run from Hunter Hines.
Rivas was replaced by freshman Brayden Jones. He finished with four runs allowed on four hits in 5 ⅓ innings pitched.
Dudy Noble Field sets NCAA attendance record
Mississippi State broke the NCAA’s all-time on-campus attendance record with an announced crowd of 16,423. The previous record of 15,586 was set when MSU hosted Ole Miss in 2014.
"I want to see that even on midweeks if we can," Jordan said. "I love seeing those crowds come out."
Crowds flooded the standing room only sections at Dudy Noble Field. MSU hosted its spring game earlier in the afternoon and is holding a concert for country artist Brett Eldredge at Dudy Noble Field after the baseball game.
