France has goal controversially disallowed by VAR in FIFA Women's World Cup opener (video)
The FIFA Women’s World Cup already has its first Video Assistant Referee controversy.
France looked to have doubled its lead in the opening match vs. South Korea when VAR judged Griedge Mbock Bathy offside before putting the ball in the back of the net.
The call was so unexpected, FOX analyst Aly Wagner let out a loud “What?” on the broadcast:

Take a look at the ball from Wendie Renard for yourself. If anything, Bathy’s foot is ever so slightly offside. But was the call too harsh?
In any event, Renard scored on a header a little later after Eugenie Le Sommer’s opener, and then scored again as France took a 3-0 lead into halftime. Les Bleues are a tournament favorite for a reason, so this particular VAR controversy ended up mattering little.
We’ll see if that’s the case if and when we get another one.
